Pakistan Railways is set to launch six new passenger trains in the first phase of a major rail rehabilitation programme in Sindh, officials announced in January 2026. The new services form part of a wider plan to restore and upgrade an 858-kilometre rail network across six corridors in the province, reconnecting towns and cities that have seen reduced or suspended services over the past decade.
The programme represents one of the largest provincial rail revival efforts in the country’s recent history and is being coordinated between Pakistan Railways and the Sindh government, with track rehabilitation, station repairs, and level-crossing upgrades all bundled into the first phase.
Six Corridors, 858 Kilometres
The rehabilitation plan covers six corridors spanning a combined 858 kilometres of track across Sindh. These corridors link secondary cities and rural districts to the main line, opening up affordable travel options for communities that currently depend on expensive and often unreliable road transport.
In addition to track and station works, the plan includes the upgrading of 100 railway crossings — a critical safety intervention, as unmanned and poorly equipped level crossings have historically been a leading cause of railway accidents in the province.
What the New Trains Mean for Travellers
The six new passenger trains in phase one will provide daily connectivity on routes where services had been thinned out or withdrawn. Officials say schedules are being designed around commuter and market-day demand, with fares kept within reach of low-income travellers.
The launch also complements the national expansion drive: Pakistan Railways has added ten new passenger trains across the network in recent months and increased coach counts on key trains from 15 to 19 to absorb growing demand.
Timeline and Next Phases
Phase one is expected to be completed during 2026, with subsequent phases extending rehabilitation deeper into the province’s branch lines. Progress on crossings and track renewal will determine how quickly additional services can be introduced.
Once the new trains begin operations, you will be able to track them — along with every other Pakistan Railways train — live on TrainTracking.pk, with real-time location, delay, and ETA information.
